PREVIEW: Knights open OCAA Championship with quarter-final matchup against George Brown

PREVIEW: Knights open OCAA Championship with quarter-final matchup against George Brown

Friday, March 2nd will see the Niagara Knights women's basketball program begin their quest for OCAA hardware competing in their quarter-final matchup against the OCAA East Division George Brown Huskies. This year's OCAA Women's Basketball Championship is being hosted By Humber College at the Humber College Athletic Centre in Etobicoke, Ont. The event will take place from March 2nd to March 4th.

The Knights look to improve on last year's tournament result, losing their opening quarter-final game to the Seneca Sting. Niagara would rally after the loss, eventually going on to defeat the Algonquin Thunder 70-63 in the consolation final.

George Brown enters the tournament as the top team in the East, finishing with a regular season record of 15-2. George Brown will be hungry to make their mark on this weekend after failing to qualify for last year's OCAA Provincial tournament.

After finishing with 4th in the OCAA West Division with a record of 14-6, the Knights look to be primed for success heading into this weekend's tournament. Niagara will be entering their quater-final on a 5 game winning streak, lossing last to the Humber Hawks on February, 10th.

If the Knights hope to be successful heading into the tournament, they must find ways to put the ball in the hands of their 4th year guard Mary Ingribelli (St. Catharines, Ont.). The Governor Simcoe graduate was named an OCAA First-Team All-Star after averaging 19.1 points per game (4th OCAA).

For Niagara to find success against George Brown Saturday night, they must find a way to shut down their 4th year guard/forward Tianna Sullivan. The Toronto native won this year's OCAA Scoring Title averaging a whopping 22 points per game. Shutting down Sullivan will be crucial if the program hopes to advance to Saturday's semi-final round.

Tip off between the two cross divisional programs is set for 6pm.
