RECAP: Knights improve to 8-5 after victory over Royals

Saturday, January 20th saw the Niagara Knights women's basketball program defeat the visiting Redeemer Royals (4-8, 7th OCAA West) 80-65. The victory holds the Knights at 4th place in the OCAA West Division while improving their season record to 8-5.

The Knights came out hot in the first and second quarters, outscoring the Royals 44-28 at the end of the first half. The Knights continued to roll in the second half, ending the third quarter up 66-47. Redeemer would come out strong in final quarter, but Niagara's lead proved to be too much to come back from.

"It's nice to come out of Saturday's game with a victory," said Knights' head coach Mike Beccaria. "It was awesome to see how the girls responded after Thursday's disappointing loss to Mohawk."

Pacing the Knights offensively was 5th year guard Courtney Kilyk (Fonthill, Ont.), who led her program with a team-high 22 points. The Knights will continue to rely on strong performances from their veteran guard if they hope to continue their success in the second half of the season.

The Knights are back in action Wednesday, January 24th when they host the Conestoga Condors (3-10, 9th OCAA West) at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.
