RECAP: Knights open weekend series with commanding victory over Cougars

The Niagara Knights women's basketball program began their weekend series with a commanding 83-27 victory over the Sault Cougars (0-19, 9th OCAA West). The Knights improve their season record to 13-6, keeping them at 4th spot in the OCAA West Division.

Friday night also served as the Knights annual women's basketball grad night, an event that saw graduating players Hope Brown (Monomills, Ont.), Brooke Cesar (Brantford, Ont.), Courtney Kilyk (Fonthill, Ont.), Kaitlyn Mahu (Sarnia, Ont.), Jaclin Pino-Martinez (St. Catharines, Ont.) and Tianna Stys (St. Catharines, Ont.) honoured prior to opening tipoff.

The Knights defense was solid throughout Friday night's west division matchup, limiting the Cougars to less than 10 points each quarter. Niagara's offense also flourished Friday night, with each player on the Knights' roster recording a point.

Leading the offense yet again for the Knights was 4th year guard Mary Ingribelli with a game high 25 points. Ingribelli's red hot play as of late has the St. Catharines native at a commanding 18.5 points per game, putting her in a battle for the OCAA West Division scoring title with Redeemer's star forward Jessica Bosma (19.6 points). Another strong performance in the Knights' regular season finale could position Ingribelli for a chance at the title.

The Knights are back at it again tomorrow night when they close out their regular season against the Sault Cougars. Tipoff is scheduled for 1pm.
