RECAP: Knights look to return to win column against Hawks

The Niagara Knights women's basketball program (1-1, 4th OCAA West) are set to take on the Humber Hawks (0-1, 8th OCAA West) in the 4th Annual Blue and White game on November 1st.

After an incredible comeback in their opening game of the season against Redeemer that saw the Knights come back from a 21-point deficit with 8:17 remaining in the game to win 83-79 in overtime, they travelled to Conestoga College where they dropped their first game of the year against the Condors, 57-38.

Bridget Atkinson (Welland) will look to continue the charge against the Hawks. In the comeback against Redeemer, Atkinson dropped a team leading 30 points, 17 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals. It was a different story in the second game, however, as she managed just 4 points on 2-12 shooting. As a team, the Knights shot just 18.3 percent from the field (15-82) against the Condors, something that they will be looking to fix this time around.

Also looking to make an impact on the game against the Hawks will be Hannah Baker (Thorold) who is averaging 12.5 points per game, including a team-high 10 points against the Condors. Tia Stys (St. Catharines) can be a spark in the Knights offence, just like she showed in the first game of the season, when she scored 23 points and added 14 rebounds.

A year ago, the Knights lost both of their regular season games against the Hawks, so they will be looking to get some vengeance. In 42 games against the Hawks since 1979, Niagara holds a 9-33 record. It's a brand new season with returning veterans and fresh faces on both sides of the court, so both teams will be looking to earn the victory in their first matchup of the season in front of a packed Blue and White game crowd.

The 4th Annual Blue & White Game day kicks off with a tailgate party at The Core at 4pm. The day also features Master Builder Graeme Dymond, who will be on-site giving a brick building seminar at 2pm with a brick building competition at 4pm. There will be tons of prizes throughout the event, and the first 400 spectators through the doors will get a #uKNIGHTed t-shirt.
