PREVIEW: Knights will attempt to begin winning streak with double-header against the Sault Cougars

The Niagara Knights women's basketball program (3-4, 7th OCAA West), fresh off of a 77-76 win in a thriller against the St. Clair Saints, will look to get a winning streak going against the Sault Cougars this weekend. The Knights will travel to Sault Ste. Marie to play a weekend double-header against the Cougars, playing both Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

The Sault Cougars have begun the season without a win, as they enter the contest with the Knights owning an 0-8 record. They sit at the bottom of the OCAA West Division. The Sault are averaging 47.6 points per game so far this season offensively, and on the other side of the ball are giving up 73.3 points per game.

Dating back to 2003, the Knights own a perfect 16-0 record against the Cougars, including a pair of wins a season ago that averaged a 48.5-point margin of victory.

The Knights have the second lowest team field goal percentage (28.3%) in the OCAA West. They will look to improve upon their shooting performances to try and bolster an offence that is averaging just 54.7 points per game. If they can improve their shooting percentage, their offensive game should begin to scare their OCAA West foes.

Bridget Atkinson (Welland) currently ranks 11th in the OCAA in points per game. The local Centennial Secondary School graduate and former OUA rookie of the year is averaging 15.8 points per game to go along with 7.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.

The Niagara Knights matchups against the Sault Cougars will begin with a 6pm game on Saturday and will end with a 1pm game the following day. Both games will be played at Sault College in Sault Ste. Marie. The game will be livestreamed, which can be found here.
