Women's Soccer Adds Rebecca Morrison

The Niagara College women's soccer program is pleased to announce the addition of Rebecca Morrison. Morrison is an athletic and skilled native of Erin, Ontario who has competed as a member of the Erin District High School Raiders, and at the club level with the Georgetown Mustangs.

The five-foot-seven Morrison will bring the Knights speed and athleticism beginning in September. Prior to deciding to enroll in Niagara College's Sport Management program, the 17-year old weighed her options south of the border, visiting a number of U.S. schools and entertaining their respective scholarship offers.

"I decided on Niagara because I felt the school was the best fit for me" said Morrison whose brother is a recent graduate of Niagara College's Broadcasting, Radio, Television, and Film program. She continued "the sport management program seems strong, the girls that I've met on the team seem great, and the soccer program is really growing."

The Sport Management program will see Morrison enroll in classes at Niagara College's Niagara-on-the-lake Campus. The Knights play their home games at Welland's Youngs' Sportsplex constructed in 2012.

Niagara College women's soccer program head coach Frank DeChellis is confident that Morrison's skill and athleticism will translate well to both the midfield and forward positions at the OCAA level.

"Rebecca is powerful with both feet. She is quick, athletic and not afraid to shoot the ball. She will play in an attacking role for us, and we are looking forward to seeing what she can do in a Knights' jersey."

Morrison was one 25 prospective student-athletes that took part in the Knights pre-summer evaluation camp on May 4th.

Coach DeChellis added "Scouting doesn't provide you with the same insight as actually working with the player.  She is a good person who made friends quickly during our pre-summer camp, and those are the type of people we want in our program."

Morrison hopes to maintain an active lifestyle during her time at Niagara College. She identified her goals as "becoming a stronger player, keeping a high average, building friendships with girls on the team, and finding a part-time job."
