PREVIEW: Knights look to build on early season momentum against Eagles

PREVIEW: Knights look to build on early season momentum against Eagles

Coming off of the largest victory in program history, the Niagara Knights women's soccer program (1-0, 1st OCAA Central) is looking to keep the momentum rolling on Wednesday night. The University of Toronto Mississauga Eagles (0-0, 2nd OCAA Central) will visit Youngs Sportsplex to take on the Knights, with kickoff slated for 4pm.

The Knights earned a 5-0 victory over the George Brown Huskies (0-1, 5th OCAA Central) on Friday night, setting programs records for most goals and largest margin of victory in the process. Niagara received contributions from four different goal scorers, with Julia Pantusa (Niagara Falls) recording a pair. With a wide variety of contributors, the Knights are hoping the balanced attack will translate into another victory against Eagles, who will be playing their first game of the young OCAA season.

The UTM Eagles are entering their second season of play in the OCAA. Having recorded a winless season a year ago, it will be expected that the Eagles will come out hungry for a victory. In the season series last year the Knights clipped UTM by scores of 4-1 and 4-2. Both Alex Pasco (Niagara Falls) and Emily Babcock (Caledon) each recorded a goal against the Eagles last season.

After beginning last season with a pair of losses, the early season victory will be a boost of confidence for a young Knights roster. Niagara enters the contest looking to earn back-to-back victories for the first time since the 2010 season, when they opened the season with a 3-0 record.

Youngs Sportsplex is located at 570 River Road, Welland. The women will kick off the doubleheader at 4pm, followed by the men at 6pm. Admission is free for all spectators.
