NEWS: Women's soccer announce addition of Alex Craig

The Niagara College women's soccer program is proud to announce the addition of Oakville native Alex Craig. Craig joins the Knights after spending the 2016 season competing for the Sheridan Bruins. She is also a product of the North Mississauga Soccer Club and Oakville Trafalgar High School systems.

"Alex is a left footed player with speed" said Niagara College women's soccer head coach Rob Lalama. "She is at her best when attacking a defender with the ball at her feet. She is a nice addition to our program."

The five-foot-two speedster brings the Knights crucial versatility, with her ability to compete at a high level at both the left wing and left back positions. Craig will enroll in the Niagara College sport management program beginning in September.

"I chose Niagara because the school gives me an opportunity to enroll in one of the best sport management programs available, while also allowing me to pursue my passion for soccer" said Craig during a meet and greet at the Welland Campus athletic centre.

Craig join a 2017 Niagara Knights women's soccer recruiting class that includes fellow Halton native and NCAA transfer Renee LaFrance and local Welland standout Lauren Frasca.

"Alex is motivated, skilled and is not afraid of hard tackling" continued Lalama. "She is a real team player and will fit in seamlessly with our group."

The Knights qualified for the OCAA playoffs for the second consecutive year in 2016. The team missed out on competing at the OCAA Championship after being defeated by the eventual bronze medallist Cambrian Golden Shield in a championship qualifying match.

Craig and the rest of the Niagara College women's soccer program will return to action when training camp opens on August 15th at Youngs SportsPlex in Welland.
