RECAP: Women's soccer drop season opener

A slow start proved to be the difference, as the Niagara College women's soccer program was defeated 2-1 by the Fanshawe Falcons on Saturday, September 9th in London.

The Falcons notched a pair of first half goals, including the eventual game winner in added time that proved to be too big an obstacle for the visiting Knights to overcome.

Making her OCAA debut, the Knights first year striker Michelle Maecker (Fonthill) found the back of the net in in the 61st minute, but her Niagara side found themselves unable pull even with the reigning West Division Champion Falcons.

Rookie goalkeeper Alexis Hebert (Waterdown) was also fantastic in her post-secondary debut, turning aside 9 of 10 shots on goal.

The Knights will now face the Mohawk Mountaineers on Wednesday, September 9th at 4:00pm at Youngs SportsPlex. The match marks the Knights home field debut for 2017 season. The two teams last met during the preseason in a match the saw the Mountaineers walk away with a hard fought 1-0 victory.
