RECAP: Women's soccer lose heart breaker to Saints

Sunday, September 17th, saw the Niagara College women's soccer program lose a heartbreaking 2-1 road match to the St. Clair Saints in Windsor.

"Our team played well despite the loss" said Knights women's soccer head coach Rob Lalama. "We battled but were unlucky. This team is better than its record and we have seven remaining games and the playoffs left to prove it."

The Saints opened the scoring in the 25th minute, and the score remained the same until the 75th when first-year midfielder Maddie Edwards (Hamilton) pulled the two teams even off a cross by rookie striker Chloe Brown-Novak (St. Catharines).

The match seemed destined to finish in a 1-1 draw, until a last second goal mouth scramble in added time (92nd minute) saw the Saints grab the win via a strike by Saints forward Alexandria Schooley.

The loss marks the third straight one goal loss for the Knights to open the season. The team has faced the top three teams in the OCAA West division, including St. Clair and Fanshawe in tough road games. The team will look to find the win column on Saturday, September 23rd when they travel to Sarnia to face the Lambton Lions (0-2).
