PREVIEW: Women's soccer looking for third straight

A pair of road victories last week sees the Niagara College women's soccer program wrap up the first half of the 2017 OCAA season with a record of 2-3. The Knights have endured a gruelling opening half, playing just one match in the friendly confines of Welland's Youngs SportsPlex, in a match that saw the team narrowly edged out (2-0) by the 5-1 Mohawk Mountaineers.

The Knights currently sit in fourth place in the OCAA West Division, but their record masks the fact that during the team's three losses, the Knights have lost by a combined total of just four goals.

So sets the stage for the second half of the season, a period that will see the Knights play four of their final five matchups at home. Opening the second half the Knights will host the winless Lambton Lions (0-6, 6th OCAA West) on September 30th at 2:00pm.

The two teams last just a week ago on September 23rd in a 3-0 shutout victory for Niagara.

Fonthill's Michelle Maecker has been an offensive force for the Knights all season. The dynamic rookie forward has four goals in her first five OCAA games. Maecker has been red hot lately scoring three goals in her last two games.

Speaking of red hot scorers, second year striker Alex Craig (Oakville) is coming off a three goal performance during the team's September 26th 6-0 win over Redeemer.

The Knights will look to continue their red hot play on Saturday, September 30th at 2:00pm at Youngs SportsPlex.
