Knights, Condors Finish to a 1-1 Draw in Wednesday Night Road Match-Up

October 11, 2019...WELLAND - It wasn't the results they were hoping for, but the Niagara College women's soccer team still walked away with a ever-so valuable point in their 1-1 draw against Conestoga College last night in Kitchener.

After finishing their last game to a 2-2 draw against Sheridan, the Knights were hoping to pull out the win to get the full three points to break up the tight race for playoff positioning in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) West Division.

The Condors would draw first blood, netting one past keeper Taylor Major (4th year, Stoney Creek) midway through the first half. The Knights would respond minutes later, with Captain Michelle Maeker notching her second of the season to tie things up heading into the last 45 minutes.

Niagara would have plenty of chances, but just couldn't seem to find the back of the net in the second half.

"We controlled play throughtout the game," said head coach Rob Lalama. "In the second half we had numerous chances, but couldn't finish- but that's sports."

Veteran defender Amanda Borowski agreed.

"We're disappointed in our efforts tonight because we weren't at our best," said Borowski. "We're looking forward to finishing this successful season at home against Redeemer next week on a high note."

It will be a race to the finish in the OCAA West, with last night's results not showing much movement in the standings. The Knights, now 4-2-2, will play their final regular season game against Redeemer (1-7) on Wednesday October 16th- the last day of OCAA regular season action.
