Knights Grind Out First Win on the Road

September 14, 2022 - The Niagara Knights women's soccer team secured their first win of the 2022-23 campaign in their Tuesday afternoon road game at Sheridan College. The Knights edged the Bruins 2-1 with a late goal coming from second-year forward, Rylan Greatrix in the 80th minute.

The Knights opened the scoring with a goal from Avery Trask on a centering pass from Tori Hultink midway through the first half. Sheridan would even things up minutes later to end the half with a 1-1 tie.

Both teams were held scoreless through the second half before a highlight reel goal from Rylan Greatrix that saw her use her lightning speed to blow by the Sheridan defence and Keeper to make it 2-1 with just under 10 minutes remaining.

Greatrix's goal proved to be the winner, with the Knights locking up their first W of the season and moving to a 1-1 record.

"We played well tonight," said head coach Rob Lalama. "We controlled the play and moved the ball well at times. This young team is starting to learn how to play together."

The blue and white will have a few days to rest and recharge before returning home to face Lambton College (0-1) Friday night at Youngs Sportsplex at 6:00 pm.
