PREVIEW: Women's Volleyball at Mohawk

The Niagara College women's volleyball (12-3, 2nd West) program will play their final road game of the 2014-15 season.  So far, the Knights are 6-2 away from the Welland Campus Athletic Centre and have won five consecutive matches.

On Friday, February 6, Niagara will be visiting the Mohawk Mountaineers (4-11, 8th West) and will looking to come away with another win so they can hold on to second place in the standings.  The Sheridan Bruins (12-4, 3rd West) are right behind the Knights and their matchup February 12 may determine who finishes second in the OCAA West.

Niagara is coming off a straight set victory over Boreal (0-13, 10th West) last weekend, a feat the Knights have accomplished eight times this year.  Even more impressive for Niagara is the fact that they have won 71 percent of the sets they have played this year, winning 40 and only losing 16.  The recent display of dominance by the Knights has propelled them back into the CCAA rankings, currently sitting at number 11 in the country.  Niagara was last ranked at 11 back on November 20, 2014 when they began the season 6-0.
Mohawk currently sits four points out of the final playoff spot in the West and could potentially make the playoffs by running the table and getting some help from the teams above them in the standings however, a loss to the Knights will eliminate Mohawk from the playoffs.
When these two teams last met on October 31, the Knights came away with a 3-0 victory – 25-18, 25-13, 25-15.  Third year middle blocker Nicole Schoonderwoerd (Tavistock) led the Knights with a season-high 14 points.
