PREVIEW: Undefeated Knights host #2 ranked Hawks

PREVIEW: Undefeated Knights host #2 ranked Hawks

The OCAA West Division's last two undefeated teams will meet in Welland tonight in a first place battle. The number 11 nationally ranked Niagara Knights women's volleyball program (5-0, 1st OCAA West) will welcome the number two ranked Humber Hawks (4-0, 3rd OCAA West) to the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.

The Knights and Hawks, the only two nationally ranked teams from Ontario, will meet for the first time since the 2016 OCAA Women's Volleyball gold medal match last season. The Hawks took the match 3-0, capturing their ninth straight OCAA Championship.

Niagara enters the match with a well balanced attack that has been the key to their success. Rachel Rivers (Cambridge), Brooklyn Hamilton (Valleyview, AB), Jordan Koslowski (Hamilton), and Linnea Davis (Brampton) are all averaging over 3 points per set.

They have been bolstered by the setting ability of Bailey Davis (Georgetown), which is consistently among the best in the province. Davis is averaging 7.72 assists per set, good enough for fourth best in the province through the season's early stages.

The winner of tonight's match will hold the early advantage in the battle for supremacy in the OCAA West. The last remaining undefeated team will have the inside track to first place at the end of the season, by way of earning the early advantage in the tiebreaking formula.

The first serve for Wednesday's match is scheduled for 6pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5 while students and those under the age of 17 are admitted free. For those unable to make it to Welland the game will be broadcast live at www.goknights.ca/watchlive courtesy of the Niagara College Broadcast, Radio, Television, and Film program.
