RECAP: Perfect no more, Knights drop close match to Humber

RECAP: Perfect no more, Knights drop close match to Humber

The winning streak stopped at five for the Niagara Knights women's volleyball program (5-1, 1st OCAA West) on Wednesday night. The Knights dropped a 3-1 (13-25, 26-24, 24-26, 20-25) to the number two nationally ranked Humber Hawks (5-0, 1st OCAA West).

It was a rocky start for Niagara who were overwhelmed in the first set, losing by 12. However the team would show a tremendous amount of resolve against the defending OCAA championships. The Knights battled back to take the second set 26-24, marking the first set Humber had lost in five matches this season.

The experienced Humber team would not allow the Knights to take another on the evening. Humber battled back from a late third set deficit, and overcame Niagara in the fourth to remain as the OCAA's only undefeated team.

Brooklyn Hamilton (Valleyview, AB) led the way offensively for Niagara by way of nine kills and three service aces for 12 points. Samantha Bailey (Cambridge) also led the Knights with a team high 10 kills. Defensively Linnea Davis (Brampton) and Amy Bultje (Chatham) contributed four blocks apiece.

The Knights won't have to wait long to try and get back on the winning side of the ledger. Niagara will visit the Sheridan Bruins (4-2, 4th OCAA West). They will close out the first half of the regular season at home on December 3rd and 4th with a pair of home games against the Boreal Viperes (0-7, 10th OCAA West) and Cambrian Golden Shield (2-5, 8th OCAA West) respectively.
