RECAP: Knights wrap up first half with weekend sweep

It was a wonderful way to kick off the holiday break for the Niagara Knights women's volleyball team (8-1, 2nd OCAA West). The Knights earned a pair of victories over the Boreal Viperes (0-9, 10th OCAA West) and Cambrian Golden Shield (3-6, 8th OCAA West) at home.

On Saturday night the Knights earned a 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-6) victory over the visiting Viperes. The Knights spread out the offence in the three victory. Sahara Aburaneh (Nelson, BC) led the way for the Knights with a career high 12 points, on the strength of six kills, five services aces, and a stuff block.

Jordan Koslowski (Hamilton) and Linnea Davis (Brampton) were the other two Knights to reach double digits, recording 10 points apiece. Bailey Davis (Georgetown) and Mackenzie Bailey (Stoney Creek) split the setting duties, recording 12 and seven assists respectively.

With a quick turnaround, the Knights welcomed the Cambrian Golden Shield to Welland on Sunday afternoon. It was Jordan Koslowski who dominated the game for Niagara. The second year outside hitter recorded career highs in both kills, with 17, and points, with 19. She also added seven digs on the defensive side of the net. Bailey Davis (Georgetown) dished out 28 assists for the Knights in the victory.

The pair of victories mark the end of the first half of the OCAA regular season. The Knights are off to their best start ever, recoding eight wins prior to the holiday break for the first time in program history. It marks the second time that the Knights have gotten off to an 8-1 start, with the latter coming during the 2006-07 season when Niagara last captured the OCAA West Division title.

The OCAA regular season will pick back up on January 14th and 15th when Niagara travels north to Sudbury for a pair of games against Cambrian and Boreal, respectively.
