RECAP: Women's volleyball defeat Royals on Grad Night

Wednesday, February 15^th saw the Niagara College women's volleyball program improve to 15-3 with a four set home court victory over the Redeemer Royals. The set scores in the contest were 24-26, 25-22, 25-16, 25-15.

The game served as the annual Knights women's volleyball Grad Game, an event that saw graduating veterans Linnea Davis, Sami Bailey, and Kennisis Vansoelen honoured prior to the opening serve.

"Tonight was an emotional match that saw our graduating veterans get a satisfying win in their final regular season game" said Niagara College women's volleyball head coach Nathan Janzen.

The Knights were again led by second year standout Jordan Koslowski (Hamilton). The explosive five-foot-eleven outside hitter led all players with 20 points on 15 kills, four aces, and a block. Koslowski leads the OCAA West division in scoring with an average of 4.2 points-per-set.

The graduating Knights also played a significant role in the victory as Davis (Brampton) a fifth-year middle blocker finished with 12 points on eight kills and four blocks. Fourth-year outside hitter Sami Bailey (Cambridge) turned in nine kills, two aces, and nine digs, while VanSoelen (Orangeville) increased her OCAA leading dig total to 216.

The Knights finish the OCAA regular season in second place in the OCAA West Division for the third consecutive season. The team will now host the Seneca Sting in an OCAA playoff match on Sunday, February 19^th at 1:30pm at the Welland Athletic Centre. The winner of Sunday's match will advance to the OCAA Championship being hosted by St. Clair College from February 24-26.

"Sunday is a brand new season. When it comes to playoffs we are 0-0 and our record doesn't matter" added Janzen. "We are going to take a day of rest, and hit the gym for a few days to get ready for our next match. We have earned the right to play at home, and we will need to play our best volleyball to move on."

Admission to Sunday's playoff match is free for Niagara College students, and those under the age of 18. For all other members of the community admission is $5.00. For those unable to be in attendance, the match will be live broadcasted at www.goknights.ca/watchlive.
