NEWS: Women's Volleyball add talented defensive specialist Ainsleigh Williams

The Niagara College women's Volleyball program is proud to announce the addition of libero Ainsleigh Williams. Williams joins the Knights from Bishop Tonnos Catholic Secondary School and the Mountain Volleyball Club (MVC) in Hamilton.

The five-foot-five defensive specialist will bring the Knights a high level of talent in the passing game. Williams is a two-time Hamilton city all-star, and was named MVP of her Bishop Tonnos High school team in 2016.

First-year Niagara College women's volleyball head coach Nathan Janzen describes Williams a "tenacious defender who competes extremely hard and is a great teammate. She has all the things you look for in a libero."

When asked why she made the decision to attend Niagara College, Williams stated "I wanted to be a Knight." She continued "Meeting with Coach Nathan and talking to some of the other players from the team, as well as seeing the closeness of Women's Volleyball program is what really made up my mind."

Williams will enroll in the Niagara College social worker program beginning in September of this year.

"I have watched Ainsleigh develop as a player for many years" continued Janzen. "She is agile, and communicates extremely well on the court. We think she will integrate seamlessly into our program's culture both on and off the court."

Williams joins a loaded 2017 Niagara College women's volleyball recruiting class that includes three of her teammates from the MVC club system including Natasha Desjardins, Melissa McFadden, and Tyler Garrick. Also committing to the Knights program this year is Hamilton Smash standout Tamara Edwards, and fellow Hamilton high school all-star Kelsey Soules.

Williams officially committed to the Knights after a formal campus visit earlier this winter, and being heavily recruited by Coach Janzen during the Ontario Volleyball Association tournament circuit.

"I'm looking forward to enjoying my time as a post-secondary student and player while making memories and setting myself up for a successful future" added Williams. "This season I'm looking to help my teammates succeed through recycling plays and providing my team with top defense."

Williams and the rest of the Niagara College women's volleyball program will return to action when training camp gets underway on September 12th.
