RECAP: Knights cross country finishes season at OCAA championships

The Niagara Knights cross country program competed at the OCAA championships presented by belairdirect Saturday, October 28th in both the men's 8 km race and the women's 6 km race. Fanshawe College hosted the event at the Fanshawe Conservation Area in London, Ont.

The men's eight kilometer race was won by Fanshawe's Jordan Kadlecik (Grand Bend, Ont.), claiming gold in a time of 26:37.5, with silver going to runner-up Tyler Jones (LaSalle) of St. Clair College (26:40.4). St. Lawrence-Kingston's Andrew Brown (Carrying Place) finished just a hair over two seconds behind Jones to take the bronze medal in a time of 26:42.5. The team medals were claimed by Fanshawe (Gold), St. Clair (Silver), and Sheridan (Bronze). The Knights' leading runner Gavin Martin (Beamsville, Ont.) finished the race with a time of 30:00.8.

The results of the Knights' male runners are as follows: Josh Turner (Grimsby, Ont.) with a time of 30:10:6; Zachary Vanderkolk (Palmerston Ont.) with a time of 31:59.1; Bram Greczkowski (Welland, Ont.) with a time of 32:36.8; Nicholas Goffredo (Little Britain, Ont.) with a time of 33:57.2; and Adam Martynek (St. Catharines, Ont.) with a time of 34:56.5.

In the women's six kilometer race, Fanshawe's Janelle Hanna (Peterborough, Ont.) won OCAA gold with a time of 22:11.4. Cambrian's Mary Strain (Fort Frances, Ont.) became a two-time OCAA medalist with her silver medal time of 22:19.8. The 2015 OCAA champion, Cambrian's Emily Marcollini (Sudbury, Ont.), claimed bronze in a time of 22:37.5. The team medals were claimed by Fanshawe (Gold), Humber (Silver), and George Brown (Bronze). The Knights' leading runner Dania Alijeilani (Mississauga, Ont.) finished the race with a time of 28:15.0 minutes.

The rest of the Knights' female runners are as follows: Jennifer Winger (Stevensville, Ont.) with a time of 28:30.7; Leah Hosack (Elora, Ont.) with a time of 30:44.6; and Abegale Rodrigues (Welland, Ont.) with a time of 31:34.8.
