Scott and Murdoch named Niagara College Athletes of the Week

Male Athlete of the Week – Jeff Scott, Men's Volleyball

Jeff Scott (Georgetown) of the Niagara Knights volleyball program has been named this week's male athlete of the week. On November 11th Scott set the Niagara Knights men's volleyball program's all-time points record.

Scott entered the contest with 754 career points, including 61 this season. He needed only seven points to break Niagara Knights Hall of Fame member Graeme Gaunt's 13 year old record of 760 career points. Averaging just over 20 points through the season's first three matches, it was nearly an inevitability that the record would be broken against the Royals. The record breaking point came on a kill in the matches' 3rd set.

"The record is a great milestone for Jeff," said Knights head coach Nathan Groenveld. "This record is very impressive." Groenveld was equally impressed with the leader that has developed in Scott. "As a coach I am much more proud of the young man Jeff has become in his time at Niagara. He has matured into a great leader and has been an integral part of the Niagara College community."

The new record adds to a of a number of Knights career records already held by Scott, including matches played (70), digs (459), and service aces (73).

Scott will be honoured for his accomplishment prior to the Knights' next volleyball home game on November 17th against the Conestoga Condors.

Female Athlete of the Week – Brooke-Lyn Murdoch, Women's Basketball

Brooke-Lyn Murdoch of the Niagara Knights women’s basketball program has been named this week’s female athlete of the week. Murdoch led the Knights to a pair of victories over the visiting Cambrian Golden Shield on November 12th and 13th.

In the first matchup on Saturday evening Murdoch recorded her first double-double of the season on the strength of 20 points and 10 rebounds. She also contributed seven assists and six steals in what may have been the most well rounded individual performance of the season for the Knights.

Just under 18 hours later Murdoch and the Knights were back on the court against the same Golden Shield squad. Murdoch added 14 more points to go along with eight rebounds, six assists, and two steals.

With their overall record now at 3-2 the Murdoch and the Knights will now head west for their next two contests.
