NEWS: Ingribelli and Bugiardini named Athletes of the Week

Female- Mary Ingribelli

For the second consecutive week, Mary Ingribelli of the Niagara College women’s basketball program has been named female athlete of the week. The Knights’ 4th year guard from St. Catharines, Ontario earns the award after recording a game-high 26 points in the Knights' 75-41 victory over the Conestoga Condors (3-11, 9th OCAA West).

“Another great performance from Mary,” said Knights’ head coach Mike Beccaria. “We will need her to continue her dominance if we hope to make a run for a medal this season.”

Ingribelli currently ranks second in the OCAA with a total of 237 points. The Governor Simcoe Standout also ranks 9th in the OCAA averaging 16.9 points per game.

Ingribelli and the rest of the Knights will be back in action Wednesday, January 31st when they hosting the visiting Sheridan Bruins (8-6, 6th OCAA West) at the Welland Athletic Centre. The game will serve as the first annual #NCTalks for #BellLetsTalk Mental Health Matchup designed to help end the stigma surrounding mental health issues in Canada.

 

Male-Elijah Bugiardini

Elijah Bugiardini of the Niagara College men’s volleyball program has been named male athlete of the week.

The 6’2 first year outside hitter earned athlete of the week honours after impressive offensive performances on the road against St. Clair and Fanshawe. The Hamilton, Ontario native finished the weekend with a team high total of 20 kills.

The St. Mary’s graduate has been a solid contributor in his first season with the Knights, currently averaging 1.8 points per set. The Knights hope that their first year outside hitter will continue to develop into a regular contributor within their starting rotation for years to come.

The Knights will rely on Bugiardini when they when they host the Boreal Vipers (0-14, 10th OCAA West) and Cambrian Golden Shield (2-12, 9th OCAA West) in back-to-back home games this Friday and Saturday.
