NEWS: Ingribelli and Hutchinson Jr. named Athletes of the Week.

Female- Mary Ingribelli

Mary Ingribelli of the Niagara College women’s basketball program has been named this week's female athlete of the week. The Knights’ 4th year guard from St. Catharines, Ontario earns the award after recording 8 steals in the program’s latest 80-65 victory over the Redeemer Royals.

“Eight steals is a career high and a monumental step forward,” said Knights’ head coach Mike Beccaria. “Mary led the defensive charge against Redeemer, setting the bar very high for our program.”

Ingribelli has been a major part of the Knights’ success this season, leading the program in both points (16.2) and rebounds (6.6). The Knights will continue to rely on the Governor Simcoe Standout if they hope to fight for a medal this season.

Ingribelli and the rest of the Knights will be back in action Wednesday, January 24th when they host the visiting Conestoga Condors (3-10, 9th OCAA West) at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.

Male- Van Hutchinson Jr.

Van Hutchinson Jr. of the Niagara College men’s basketball program has been named this week's male athlete of the week. The Knights’ 3rd year guard from Nassau, Bahamas earns the award after his 30 point performance in the 79-78 victory over the Mohawk Mountaineers. Hutchinson was also very impressive in this weekend’s loss to Redeemer, contributing 19 points and 11 rebounds.

“Van continues to play great basketball,” said Knights head coach Mike Hurley. “He continues to show why we can rely on him in the big moments of close games.”

Hutchinson Jr. has been electrifying for the Knights, averaging 18.2 points and 11.8 rebounds through the first 13 games of the season. His ability to perform against good programs will be key if the Knights hope to do damage at this year’s OCAA Championships.

Hutchinson Jr. and the Knights will be back in action Wednesday, January 24th when they host the visiting Conestoga Condors (3-10, 9th OCAA West) at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.
