NEWS: Ingribelli and Hutchinson Jr. named Athletes of the Week.

Male- Van Hutchinson Jr.

Van Hutchinson Jr. of the Niagara College men’s basketball program has been named this week's male athlete of the week. The Knights’ 3rd year guard from Nassau, Bahamas earned the award after his 36 point performance in the 102-97 victory over the Humber Hawks.

“Van has been great for us all season,” said Knights head coach Mike Hurley. “His ability to come up big in games like these show how crucial his success is for us heading into the OCAA championships in 2018.”

Hutchinson Jr. has been impressive for the Knights this year, averaging 17. 3 points and 11.7 rebounds through the first 9 games of the season. His latest 36 point performance against a very good Hawks’ program shows the Knights can rely on their 3rd year guard to come up big in important moments. 

Hutchinson Jr. and the Knights will be back in action Wednesday, December 13th when they host the Fanshawe Falcons (6-4, 5th OCAA West) to close out 2017.   

Female- Mary Ingribelli

For the second consecutive week, Mary Ingribelli of the Niagara College women’s basketball program has been named this week’s female athlete of the week. The St. Catharines, Ontario native receives this award after posting a team high 15 points and 7 rebounds in the Knights 102-50 loss over the undefeated Humber Hawks (11-0, 1st OCAA West)

The 4th year guard is the focal point of the Knights offense this season, averaging 17.9 points through the team’s first nine games. The fourth year former Governor Simcoe standout is also giving the Knights 6.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.

“Mary continues to find ways to impress” said Niagara Knights women’s basketball head coach Mike Beccaria. “Her ability to compete at an elite level makes her dangerous for us heading down the stretch.”

Ingribelli and the rest of the women’s basketball program will look to finish off 2017 in the win column when they host the Fanshawe Falcons (8-2, 3rd OCAA West) Wednesday, December 13th at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.
