NEWS: Mukuna and Kilyk named Knights' athletes of the week

Male- Levi Mukuna

Levi Mukuna of the Niagara College men’s basketball program team has been named this week’s male athlete of the week.

Mukuna has been outstanding for the Knights this season, averaging a commanding 21.8 points in four games. Mukuna’s average points per game is good enough for 7th best in the OCAA.

The Hamilton native and graduate of ACMT has been an ironman for the Knights this year, averaging 38.8 minutes per game. Mukuna’s latest victim this season was the St. Clair Saints, who he torched for 27 points and 12 rebounds in a commanding 93-78 victory for the Knights.

Mukuna’s ability to command the court the way he does is truly something special. His ability to create and capitalize on scoring chances can give his Knights program a chance to win every night. The veteran guard will be relied upon once again when the Knights host the Lambton Lions Thursday, November 9th at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.

Female- Courtney Kilyk

Courtney Kilyk of the Niagara College women’s basketball program has been named this week’s female athlete of the week.

The Fonthill, Ont. native is off to a red hot start for the Knights, averaging 14.8 points through the team’s first four games. The fifth year former Notre Dame standout is also giving the Knights 8 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.

Kilyk's latest standout performance came in the Knights 82-62 victory over the Lambton Lions where she dropped 20 points to go along with 6 assists, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. “Court did a great job CD SC at both ends of the floor,” said head Coach Mike Beccaria.” all while holding St. Clair standout Shannon Kennedy to 5 points, 1 for 6 from the 3 point line, and 2 for 9 overall.”

The Knights will look to Kilyk as they attempt to go over .500 for the first time this season when they host the Lambton Lions Thursday, November 9th at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.
