Male Athlete of the Week – Jordi Amores, Men’s Soccer

Jordi Amores of the Niagara Knights men’s soccer program has been named this week’s male athlete of the week. Amores was a driving force behind the Knights two victories over the Mohawk Mountaineers and St. Clair Saints last week.

The veteran fourth year midfielder enjoyed a pair of dominant performances, playing all 180 minutes and notching a goal in both matches. The Niagara Falls native and product of Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School, is currently enrolled in the Niagara College business program.

"Jordi is a durable, steady, and skillful player who wants to run the show, and we are comfortable with him in that role” said Niagara College men’s soccer head coach Frank DeChellis. “He has a quiet enthusiasm about him that slowly creeps its way into his teammates. He is one of two players that has played all 270 minutes for us this season.”

Amores and the rest of the 2-1 Niagara Knights men’s soccer program will return to action on Saturday, September 23rd when the team travels to Sarnia to take on the Lambton Lions.

Female Athlete of the Week – Ashley Bruzzese, Women’s Soccer

Ashley Bruzzese of the Niagara College women’s soccer program has been named this week’s female athlete of the week.

Bruzzese, is a first year full back from Welland that joins the Knights after competing for Notre Dame at the high school level. Bruzzese was a bright spot for the Knights during the team’s two heartbreaking one-goal defeats last week to the Mohawk Mountaineers and St. Clair Saints.

“Ashley was outstanding for us playing the left fullback position” said Niagara College women’s soccer head coach Rob Lalama. “She played extremely well defensively, anticipated and broke up opposing attacks, then created Niagara attacks on the transition.”
