Travis Waite and Kayde Bailey Named Athletes of the Week

Travis Waite - Male Athlete of the Week

Travis Waite of the Niagara College men’s volleyball program (6-0) has been selected as this week’s male athlete of the week. Waite was a major force in all aspects of the Knights 3-1 victory over the Sheridan Bruins on November 14th.

The six-foot-four native of St. Thomas was strong in all facets of the match finishing with 12 points on four kills, four service aces, and four stuff blocks. Niagara College men’s volleyball head coach Nathan Groenveld commented “Travis has been hitting at a high efficiency for us all season. He was huge for us during the victory over Sheridan.”

The first-year middle blocker has enjoyed a strong first half of the season leading the OCAA in service aces with 13, and is among the league leaders in blocks with 15.

Waite and the rest of the CCAA’s #2 ranked Niagara College men’s volleyball program will return to action on Wednesday, November 20th when the team visits the Redeemer Royals. First serves is set for 8:00pm. 

 

Kayde Bailey - Female Athlete of the Week

Kayde Bailey of the Niagara College women’s volleyball program has been selected as this week’s female athlete of the week. Bailey led the Knights offensively during the team’s 3-0 victory over the Sheridan Bruins on Thursday, November 14th.

Against the Bruins, the second-year native of Burlington recorded 10 kills, a service ace, and 14 digs, prompting Knights’ head coach Joey Martins to comment “Kayde continued her strong play for us this season. She’s been steady all season, and provides us with consistent offense match-in and match-out.”

Bailey brings versatility to Knights, with the ability to play the setter, libero, and outside hitter positions. Bailey has predominantly lineup up at the outside hitter position this season, and currently ranks among the OCAA leaders in in virtually all offensive categories.

Bailey and the rest of the Niagara College women’s volleyball program will return to action on Wednesday, November 20th when the team visits the Redeemer Royals. First-serve is set for 6:00pm.
