Jordan Provenzano and Melanie Bajic Named Athletes of the Week

Male Athlete of the Week - Jordan Provenzano, Men's Soccer

In just his first week as an OCAA student-athlete, Jordan Provenzano of the Men’s Soccer Program has been named the Niagara College Male Athlete of the Week. The first-year goalkeeper provided standout performances in both of the Knights matches this week, most notably a 1-0 shutout victory over the defending National Champion Humber Hawks.

A native of Niagara Falls, Provenzano is a graduate of St. Michael’s Catholic High School. Prior to joining the Knights, Provenzano honed his skills in the Canadian Soccer League with Niagara United.

Provenzano is currently enrolled in the Electrical Engineering Technology program, and lists his goals during his time at Niagara College as winning a National Championship and achieving an 80% academic average.

Niagara College Men’s Soccer head coach Frank DeChellis commented “Jordan was outstanding in both our matches this week. He’s very athletic, technical, and brings our team stability from the back end. He provides confidence when guiding the rest of the team defensively.”

Provenzano and the rest of the Niagara College soccer program (1-1) will look to continue their winning ways when the team visits Conestoga on September 19th.

Female Athlete of the Week - Melanie Bajic, Women's Soccer

The Niagara College department of athletics & recreation is pleased to announce that Melanie Bajic of the Women’s Soccer Program has been named this week’s female athlete of the week. The second-year goalkeeper was outstanding in both of the Knights matches last week, but her key performance came during a 2-0 shutout of the Redeemer Royals on September 11.

The Grimsby native was outstanding in the victory over Royals, recording over a dozen saves, including several keys stops during a 25 minute offensive push by Redeemer to open the second half. The win gave the Knights their first victory since 2010.

Niagara College women’s soccer head coach Frank DeChellis commented “Melanie has been working very hard at training with one of our assistant coaches Gerry D’Angelo. She is proving to be a truly effective member of our defensive core, and is thriving in her leadership role with the program.”

Bajic and the rest of the Niagara College women’s soccer program will look for their second win of the season on September 19th, when the team visits the Conestoga Condors.
