Jordi Amores and Rachel Wachner Named Athletes of the Week

Male Athlete of the Week - Jordi Amores, Men's Soccer

Jordi Amores of the Niagara College men’s soccer program has been selected as this week’s male athlete of the week. Amores provided the Knights’ lone goal during a 1-1 draw with the St. Clair Saints on Sunday, September 22nd. Originally from Costa Rica, Amores now resides in Niagara Falls, and competes for Niagara United of the Canadian Soccer League.

Amores played a key role in a pair of ties for the Knights last week. He played the entire match during both games, and provided the game tying goal in the 65th minute for the Knights on September 22nd.

Amores is in his second year with the men’s soccer program, and is currently enrolled in the Niagara College Graphic Design program.

Known for his outstanding foot skills and dribbling ability, men’s soccer head coach Frank DeChellis summed up Amores’ on field ability when he said “we coach our team as best we can, but sometimes as a group we just have to step back and watch Jordi do his thing on the field.”

Up next for Jordi and the rest of the men’s soccer program is a pair of road matches this week against the Mohawk Mountaineers and the Fanshawe Falcons.

Female Athlete of the Week - Rachel Wachner, Women's Soccer

In just her second week of post-secondary soccer play, Rachel Wachner of the Niagara College women’s soccer program has been named the Niagara College female athlete of the week.

Wachner is a native of Grimsby, Ontario and is a graduate of Blessed Trinity high school. The first-year midfielder played in 170 of 180 minutes during the Knights two matches last week.

Knights head coach Frank DeChellis spoke highly of Wachner adding “Rachel gave us very strong two-way play last week. She’s fast, athletic, and she anchors our midfield group.”

A true first-year player, Wachner is just 17 and is currently enrolled in the Niagara College Educational Assistant – Special Needs Support program.

Wachner and the rest of the Niagara College women’s soccer program will continue their quest to return to the OCAA playoffs on Wednesday, September 25th when the team visits the Mohawk Mountaineers
