Steve Stone and Alyssa McCabe Named SAC Athletes of the Week

Male Athlete of the Week – Steve Stone, Men’s Volleyball

Steve Stone of the Niagara College men’s volleyball program has been selected as this week’s SAC male athlete of the week. Stone was outstanding for the Knights, during the team’s impressive five-set upset over the OCAA’s first place Humber Hawks on November 30th.

Stone is a six-foot-two native of St. Catharines Ontario that plays the setter position for the Knights. He is a graduate of the powerhouse volleyball program at Eden High School and is currently enrolled in the Niagara College Recreation and Leisure program.

During the Knights dramatic victory over the Humber Hawks on November 30th, Stone quarterbacked and led the Knights offense to their best performance of the 2014-15 season. The fourth-year team captain added to his OCAA leading assist totals finishing the match with 32 assists, while also adding five digs, a stuff block, and a kill.

Stone and the rest of the 5-3 Niagara College men’s volleyball program will wrap up the 2014 portion of their season on Thursday, December 4th when the team travels to London to take on the Fanshawe Falcons (5-3).

Female Athlete of the Week Alyssa McCabe, Women’s Volleyball

Alyssa McCabe of the Niagara College women’s basketball program (4-4) has been selected as this week’s SAC female athlete of the week.

McCabe has been outstanding for the Knights in 2014-15.  During the team’s hard fought 68-63 loss to the first-place Mohawk Mountaineers (7-1) on November 27th the Niagara Falls native played a game high 34 minutes, and finished with nine points, five assists, five rebounds, two blocks, and a steal.

McCabe currently leads the OCAA in assists, averaging a conference high 5.2 per game.

The five-foot-five point guard is a graduate of A.N. Meyer Secondary School, and is currently in her second year of the Niagara College Educational Assistant program.

McCabe and the rest of the Niagara College women’s basketball program will wrap up 2014 with a rough game versus the Redeemer Royals (1-7) on Thursday, December 4th
