Female Athlete of the Week – Alyssa McCabe, Women’s Basketball

For the second consecutive week Alyssa McCabe of the Niagara College women’s basketball program has been named SAC athlete of the week. McCabe was outstanding during the Knights two victories over the Cambrian Golden Shield on January 31^st and February 1^st.

Facing a determined Cambrian side on back-to-back days proved a tough test for the Knights. During the February 1^st afternoon matchup however, the five-foot-six second year point guard turned in arguably her best game in a Knights’ uniform.

The Niagara Falls native finished with 18 points, eight assists, five rebounds, five blocks, and a steal prompting her head coach Mike Beccaria to comment “Alyssa gave us an absolutely dominant performance. Plain and simple.”

McCabe is enrolled in the Niagara College educational assistant program and she currently leads the OCAA is assists, averaging 5.4 per game.

McCabe and the rest of the Niagara College women’s Basketball program (8-6) will return to action on Friday, February 6^th when the team hosts the Redeemer Royals at 6:00pm at the Welland campus athletic centre.

Male Athlete of the Week – Delroy Grandison, Men’s Basketball

Delroy Grandison of the Niagara College men’s basketball program has been selected as this week’s SAC male athlete of the week. Grandison played a key role in helping lift the Knights to a pair of victories over the visiting Cambrian Golden Shield this past weekend.

During the Knights January 31^st 98-41 win, the six-foot-three native of Kingston, Jamaica shot an incredible 13 of 16, finishing with 27 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and two assists.

The first-year forward is currently averaging 14.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game in 2014-15. He is enrolled in the Niagara College Welding Techniques program.

Grandison and the rest of the Niagara College men’s basketball program (5-9) will continue their 2014-15 playoff chase on Friday, February 6^th when the team hosts the Redeemer Royals at 8:00pm at the Welland campus athletic centre.
