Female Athlete of the Week – Hayley Tamo, Women’s Basketball
Hayley Tamo of the Niagara College women’s basketball program (4-2) has been named this week’s SAC Athlete of the Week. Tamo was a catalyst for the Knights during a pair of road victories on November 15 and 16 versus the Sault College Cougars.
The second year guard led all weekend scorers with 27 points in two games. Saturday saw the five-foot-nine Tamo record 13 points and seven rebounds in 24 minutes of play.
On Sunday however, the Mississauga native played what Knights head coach Mike Becarria called “easily her best game in a Knights uniform” finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Tamo is a graduate of John Fraser Secondary School, and is currently enrolled in year two of the Niagara College executive office administration program.
The Niagara College women’s basketball program will host the undefeated Humber Hawks this week at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.
Male Athlete of the Week – Trevon Ash, Men’s Basketball
Trevon Ash of the Niagara College men’s basketball program (3-3) has been selected as this week’s SAC male athlete of the Week. Ash served as an offensive and defensive catalyst for the Knights on the road this weekend against the Sault College Cougars.
The six-foot-three guard and native of San Diego, led all Knights in scorers with 36 points in two games, and shot an impressive 50% from behind three point line.
Ash spent the previous two seasons competing at the Junior College level with Grossmont College in his home state of California. He is averaging a team leading 21 points per game for the Knights in 2014-15. He is currently enrolled in the Niagara College international business program.
Ash and the rest of the Niagara College men’s basketball program will return to action on November 20th when the team hosts the second place Humber Hawks at the Welland Campus athletic centre.
