Delroy Grandison and Miranda Ross Named SAC Athletes of the Week

Male Athlete of the Week – Delroy Grandison, Men’s Basketball

This week’s SAC male athlete of the week is Delroy Grandison of the Niagara College men’s basketball program. Grandison was a force during the Knights impressive 96-79 victory over the visiting St. Clair Saints on November 2nd finishing with 20 points, nine rebounds, and two steals.

The athletic first-year forward is a native of Kingston, Jamaica. Standing at six-foot-three, Grandison has had an outstanding start to his post-secondary basketball career. He is averaging 16.6 points, nine rebounds, 3.5 steals, and 3.5 blocks per game over the Knights first three games.

“Delroy has been strong for us so far” said Niagara College men’s basketball coach Keith Vassell. “He is athletic and works very hard. He has been a strong addition to our program.”

Grandison is currently enrolled in his first year of the Niagara College welding techniques program.

The Knights will return to action on Friday, November 7th at 8:00pm when they host the Fanshawe Falcons (2-1) at the Welland Campus athletic centre. The event will serve as the second annual Knights’ Remembrance Day fundraiser. All tickets sales from the games will be donated to the Royal Canadian Legion Fonthill Branch 613.

Female Athlete of the Week – Miranda Ross, Women’s Basketball

Miranda Ross of the Niagara College women’s basketball program has been selected as this week’s SAC female athlete of the week.

Ross is in her fourth season with the Knights and serves as a team captain for the women’s basketball program. The six-foot-one native of St. Catharines is a graduate of Eden High School, and is consistently tasked with defending opposing team’s most lethal offensive threats.

On November 2nd Ross was instrumental in helping left the Knights to an impressive 65-57 victory over the defending OCAA Bronze medalist St. Clair Saints. Ross’s primary contribution was holding OCAA Rookie of the Year and First-Team All-Star Shannon Kennedy to just seven second half points.

"Miranda's play has been at a very high level so far this season" said Niagara College women's basketball head coach Mike Beccaria. "She is a leader, a great defender, and can play multiple positions on the floor."

Ross is currently enrolled in her first-year of the Niagara College paramedics program.

The women’s basketball program will return to action on Friday, November 7th at 6:00pm when they host the Fanshawe Falcons (3-0) at the Welland Campus athletic centre.
