Male Athlete of the Week – Nathan Snippe, Men’s Volleyball

Nathan Snippe (St. Anns) of the Niagara College men’s volleyball program has been selected as this week’s SAC male athlete of the Week. Snippe served as an offensive and defensive catalyst for the Knights during the team’s 3-1 road victory over the Redeemer Royals on November 7th.

The six-foot-seven outside hitter led all players in the game finishing with 17 points on 12 kills four blocks and an ace.

“Nathan was a monster at the net and set the tone for our team” said Niagara College men’s volleyball head coach Nathan Groenveld. “He played great defence and had some big time kills for us. He sets the intensity level and effort output for our group and is very tough for opponents to deal with.”

Snippe is a graduate of Smithville District Christian high school, and is currently enrolled in his second year of the Niagara College protection, security, and investigations program.

Snippe at the rest of the Niagara College men’s volleyball program will return to action on November 15th and 16th when the team hosts the Cambrian Golden Shield and Boreal Vipers at the Welland Campus athletic centre.

Female Athlete of the Week – Linnea Davis, Women’s Volleyball

Linnea Davis (Brampton) of the Niagara College women’s volleyball program has been named SAC female athlete of the week. Davis was instrumental in helping lift the undefeated women’s volleyball program to a dramatic 3-2 road victory over the Redeemer Royals.

“Linnea is the ultimate team player, and will always put her teammates before herself” said women’s volleyball head coach Joey Martins. “She is really evolving into one of the best Right Side players in the league, and her performance in the fifth set against Redeemer, scoring three out of the last four points really shows that.”

Davis is currently in her first year with the Niagara College women’s volleyball program having spent two previous seasons competing with the Brock Badgers. Davis is currently enrolled in Sport Management at the Niagara-on-the-Lake campus.

Davis finished the game against the Royals with 10 kills and seven digs. The Mayfield Secondary School graduate stands at over six-foot, and brings the Knights tremendous size, athleticism, and experience to the outside hitter position.
