Robert ('Bob') Thrower

Bob Thrower formerly of Welland, Ontario and currently living in Etobicoke, Ontario was a big burley defenseman who spent three years patrolling the blue line on the Niagara Knights hockey team. In those three years, Bob  became one of the most effective two-way defenseman to wear a Knights uniform.

In his second season (1985-86) with the Knights, Bob  earned great praise from his coach and teammates as he was named team MVP and received the Athlete of Distinction award. His strong play at both ends of the rink continued into his final year and earned him the International Collegiate Hockey League First Team All Star honours. As team captain in 1986-1987, he was an outstanding team leader who led by example and completed the year as the team's leading scorer and helped lead the Knights to a Silver medal in the ICHL.

In his three years as a member of the Knights hockey team, Bob  became the leading scoring defenseman in the history of the Niagara College hockey program. Bob  earned the greatest athletic honour that the college bestows, in 1986-87 when he was named Male Athlete of the Year. Assisting on the game tying goal in the 1986-87 championship game was his most memorable moment in his career at Niagara College. Robert graduated from the Construction Engineering Technology and Architecture program in 1987.
