Mike Hurley

Mike Hurley of Fonthill, Ontario, was one of the most highly recruited basketball players in the province. He spent three years at Niagara College in the guard position.

In his freshman year, Mike was one of the most dominating players in the OCAA (Ontario Colleges Athletic Association) and with teammate Mike Harris, they formed one of the most potent backcourts in the league. They combined for more than 40 points and more than eight three-pointers per game. He averaged 18.6 (PPG) as a freshman, 15.1 (PPG) as a sophomore and 18.1 (PPG) as a junior, each year finishing in the Top 10 in league scoring.

He was an instrumental part of putting Niagara back on the Division 1 map in men's basketball. In 1994 - 95, Mike was named Niagara's Male Freshman Athlete of the Year, twice named team MVP, captained the team in all three years, received the Athlete of Distinction award 1996-97, named to the OCAA Western Region All-Star Team, 1st and 2nd team League All Star in 1995- 96, 1996 - 97. On February 17, 1995 Mike set an OCAA individual record when he sunk nine three-point field goals in a 102-78 win.

His nine treys also contributed to the OCAA team record for three pointers in one game of 16. He played his final two years of collegiate basketball for the Brock University Badgers where he was captain of the team.

His most memorable moment was being part of an up and coming program. The feeling of being part of a true team, and it was never more evident than at the conclusion of his final game with the Knights.

Mike graduated from the General Arts and Science program in 1997.

He is currently a member of the Niagara College athletic staff.
