Student Administrative Council  (SAC)

Since 1969, the Student Administrative Council (SAC) – originally called the Student Administrative Assembly – has been a committed supporter and builder of Athletic and Recreation programming at Niagara College . This support has manifested itself in many ways over the years.

Promotional efforts have included displaying Championship Banners in the Student Centres, posting varsity game schedules in its Student Handbook, providing website support, and sponsoring many sports-oriented activities such as subsidized excursions to professional sporting events, arena rentals for free ice-skating, annual ski trips, student bowling leagues, and annual golf tournaments for students and staff.

As advocates of sports and recreation, SAC has provided financial and other support to various sports-based clubs, and led the charge in 1995 to keep Niagara 's popular varsity hockey team alive when cancellation of the program was first announced.

SAC's financial support began in the 1960's with the introduction of a mandatory Student Athletic Fee that continues to be used to build and support the day-to-day operations of a wide variety of varsity, intramural and recreational programming. The financial support reached new heights in the 1990s with a significant multi-year financial commitment to assist in the building of student life and recreational facilities and services at the new Glendale Campus. SAC also donated funds to help replace the gym floor at the Welland Campus, create Varsity Athlete Awards, provide financial and operational support to the Annual Awards and Hall of Fame events, and sponsor Provincial and National Championship Athletic events hosted by Niagara College.

In February 2006, the Niagara College Student Administrative Council announced an unprecedented $2.5 million dollar multi-year commitment on behalf of the students of Niagara College to help build a new Athletic Facility at the Welland Campus and to enhance facilities at the Glendale Campus, beginning in 2007/08.

Niagara College is honoured to induct the Student Administrative Council–past, present and future - into the Niagara College Knights Hall of Fame.
