RECAP: Knights earn first victory on the road against Condors

Jordan Koslowski (Hamilton) was on fire this past Thursday, October 25th, as the Niagara Knights women's volleyball program (1-1, 5th OCAA West) picked up their first victory of the season, defeating the Conestoga Condors (0-1, 8th OCAA West) by a score of 3-2 (25-17, 25-20, 24-26, 21-25, 15-12).

Koslowski, the former All-Canadian who is in her 4th season with the team, had 22 kills on 47 total attack attempts with just 2 attacking errors. Her .426 kill percentage led her to a team high 27 points, just 2 points shy of her career high 29 points in a single match.

Knights rookie Olivia Burnie (Orillia) was also strong in what was her first attempt in the starting lineup, converting 24 total attack attempts into 12 kills. She finished with 14 points.

Rookie Setter Montanna Taylor (St. Catharines) was terrific in setting up her attackers, registering 37 assists. Taylor also helped out on the attack, picking up 3 kills.

It was a great showing for the Knights who were forced to battle some adversity. After going up two sets to none, the Condors stormed back to tie things at two, but the Knights ensured that they would return home with their seasons first win after they lost their season opener against the Falcons back on October 25th

"Tonight showed us the importance of maintaining forcus for a full match of volleyball," said Knights head coach Natasha Spaling. "We came out strong in the first two sets and then let them have a few too many service runs in the next two. Ultimately, we were able to keep it simple and control the court in the fifth set. I was impressed with the composure of the athletes, it's never easy to win a fifth set in an away gym."

The Knights next matchup will be against the Mohawk Mountaineers (1-0, 1st OCAA West) on November 3rd on the road. The match is set to begin at 1pm.
