The Niagara Knights women's volleyball program (3-2, 6th OCAA West) took on the Cambrian Golden Shield (1-3, 8th OCAA West) and the Boreal Viperes (0-4, 9th OCAA West) over the weekend.
Against the Golden Shield, the Knights battled their way to a win in the first set, as no team could pull ahead until Ainsleigh McInnes-Williams (Mount Hope) would help the Knights pull out to a 22-15 lead thanks to a long-string of serves that the Golden Shield would have trouble returning. The Knights would ultimately win the set 25-17.
In the second and third sets, Niagara would make no mistakes, smashing the ball for 13 kills in the second set and 14 in the third, paving their way to a match sweep. They won the last two sets 25-16 and 25-17.
Moving into their matchup against Boreal, the Knights wouldn't allow such a close set in the opener of this match, dominating the entire first set on their way to a 25-8 win. With the momentum on their side, the Knights would remain strong and win the remaining two sets 25-15 and 25-18 to earn the full weekend sweep.
Jordan Koslowski (Hamilton) had a monumental weekend, as she broke her second Niagara Knights record in the past week. After surpassing Tracy Smith's all-time points record of 679 against Mohawk last Saturday, Koslowski recorded 8 kills against Cambrian and would dominate against Boreal, registering 15 kills and cementing herself as the Knights' all-time kills leader with 561. Koslowksi surpassed former Knight Ginni Llord, who had the record of 556 which was set back in 2003.
"Jordan is consistently one of the most hard-working athletes in practice," said Knights head coach Natasha Spaling on her outside hitter's new record. "She shows up day in and day out not only for herself to get better but to make her teammates better as well. All of her hard work was rewarded Sunday with her new record for Niagara College."
Zeniah Pinnock (Toronto) was a force this weekend, registering 8 kills against Cambrian and 9 against Boreal. In total, she would contribute 24.0 points and 8 digs over the two matchups.
Nathasha Desjardins (Welland) had an all-around strong weekend for the Knights. The second year outside hitter had 11 kills, 4 assists, 3 service aces and 10 digs combined over the two matches.
The Knights return to action against the Redeemer Royals (0-5, 9th OCAA West) at home on November 16th. The Friday night matchup is scheduled to begin at 6pm at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.
