Male Athlete of the Week – Nathan Snippe
For the second time this season, Nathan Snippe of the Niagara College men’s volleyball program has been selected as the SAC male athlete of the Week. Snippe was outstanding during the Knights two games this week.
The six-foot-eight outside hitter finished the week with team highs in points (26) and kills (12) in matches against the Conestoga Condors and Humber Hawks.
Snippe is a native of St. Anns, Ontario and is a graduate of Smithville District Christian School. He is currently enrolled in his third year of the Niagara College protection, security, and investigations program.
Snippe and the rest of the Niagara College men’s volleyball program will return to action on Friday, January 16th at 8:00pm when the team hosts the Redeemer Royals.
Female Athlete of the Week – Nicole Schoonderwoerd
Third-year middle blocker Nicole Schoonderwoerd of the Niagara College women’s volleyball program (8-3) has been selected as this week’s SAC female athlete of the week.
The six-foot native of Tavistock had an outstanding first week of 2015. She was dominant defensively during the Knights hard fought four-set loss to the undefeated Humber Hawks on January 7th finishing with six blocks, and four kills. She continued her strong play during the Knights impressive 3-0 victory over the Conestoga Condors on January 11th finishing with seven kills, two aces, and a block.
“Nicole has been tremendous for our program this year” said Niagara College women’s volleyball head coach Joey Martins. “She brings a mature stable presence to the court. She is very calm, and understands what needs to be accomplished. Nicole has truly established herself as one of the top middle blockers in the OCAA.”
Schoonderwoerd is currently enrolled in her final year of the Personal Support Worker program.
The Niagara College women’s volleyball program will return to action on Friday, January 16th at 6:00pm when the team hosts the Redeemer Royals at the Welland Campus athletic centre.
