RECAP: Niagara curling teams experience success at Knights Bonspiel

The Niagara Knights men's and women's curling teams leveraged home ice advantage in the Niagara Knights Bonspiel at the Welland Curling Club on January 23. The men's team captured first place in the bonspiel with a 3-0 record. On the women's side, the Knights finished second behind the Humber Hawks with a 1-2 record.

The Knight's men had a strong showing, finishing in first place with a 3-0 record in their home bonspiel. Niagara opened the day earning a close 7-6 victory over the Humber Hawks. They followed up with a strong 8-6 victory over the Fanshawe Falcons before closing out the day with a 6-3 win over the Mohawk Mountaineers.

The Knights responded after finishing the Humber Bonspiel on January 15 with a 1-4 record. The results are a strong improvement for the Knights who dropped a 13-6 decision to the Hawks and 10-2 result to the Falcons last weekend.

On the women's side of the draw Niagara dropped their first game of the day by a close 11-8 score against the aforementioned Humber Hawks. They rebounded with a controlling 10-2 victory over the Fanshawe Falcons. Despite scoring in six ends in their final match of the day, the Knights concluded the bonspiel with a 10-7 loss to the Seneca Sting. Niagara completed the day with a 1-2 record, which was enough to land them a second-place finish at the event.

The Knights will now have a two-week hiatus before they hit the ice next at the OCAA Championships on February 11-14. Hosted by Confederation College the event will be held in Thunder Bay at the Port Arthur Curling Club.
