Lorelle Weavers Named CCAA All-Canadian

Quebec City, QC – Tuesday, October 14th saw the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association hold the 2014 National Championship awards banquet, and Niagara College golfer Lorelle Weavers was named a CCAA All-Canadian. The selection marks just the eighth time in Niagara College history that a Knights' student-athlete has earned the prestigious accolade.

CCAA All-Canadians are selected by their respective conferences based on their athletic performance and overall contribution to their sport and team.

"We are very proud of Lorelle and her accomplishments this season" said Niagara College director of athletics and recreation Matthew Davies. "She is a tremendous individual and a fantastic competitor who has clearly established herself as one of the top golfers in the CCAA. On behalf of Niagara College, we wish her the best of luck at the National Championships this week."

The 2014 season saw the Burlington, Ontario native capture an OCAA Silver medal, along with individual tournament championships at the Niagara Knights Falls Classic, the Fanshawe College Invitational, and the Durham College Invitational.

Weavers shot a personal best round two-under par (70) at the Fanshawe College Invitational on September 20th. The round saw her finish 14 strokes ahead of her nearest female competitor, and five strokes better than the lowest men's round of the day. Weavers has also been named Niagara College female athlete of the week three times in 2014.

Weavers is in her third year of athletic eligibility, and her first year with the Niagara College golf program. She spent the previous two seasons competing in the NCAA at Chicago State University.

She is a graduate of Burlington's Lester B. Pearson High School, and is currently enrolled in the Niagara College professional golf management co-op program.

Her All-Canadian selection marks the third consecutive year that a Niagara College Knight has been named one of Canada's best. Weavers joins former Knights Daniel Groenveld (Volleyball, 2013-14), Shayne Petrusma (Volleyball, 2012-13), Kaitlyn McKenna (Basketball, 2007-08), Justin Ross (Volleyball, 2003-04), Blair Cudmore (Volleyball, 1994-95), Tom Peat (Badminton, 1984-85), and Mark Nelson (Badminton, 1984-85).

A banner is created for all Niagara College student-athletes selected as CCAA All-Canadians. The banners hang in the Welland Campus Athletic Centre, and Weavers' banner will be formally unveiled at a ceremony later this Fall.
