Knights Drop 3-2 Decision to Fanshawe

Knights Drop 3-2 Decision to Fanshawe

February 27, 2022 - The Niagara Knights men's volleyball team suffered their second straight loss this week after losing another five set battle, this time to the Fanshawe Falcons.

The Knights were looking to bounce back from their loss to Sheridan on Wednesday night, while the Falcons were looking to extend their winning streak.

Niagara took a big 12-5 mid-set lead early on and kept up their defensive play to keep the Falcons at bay with a 25-18 win in the first set.

It was all Fanshawe in the second set, as the Falcons jumped out to a 4-0 lead early on. The Knights struggled to gain momentum in and found themselves in a hole down 6-17, and eventually gave up a 10-25 loss to the home team.

Both teams exchanged the lead throughout set three but the blue and white finally started to pull away with a five point run to make the score 15-10, eventually pulling off the 25-18 set win to take the 2-1 lead.

Once again, the Falcons were not going down without a fight and got ahead early in the fourth set. Niagara tried to mount a comeback but the Falcons dug in for a 17-25 fourth set win and force a fifth and deciding set.

Niagara looked good early on in set 5, jumping out to an early lead but the home team prevailed and eventually overpowered the Knights to a 9-15 set win to secure their fifth straight win and improve to 5-2.

With the loss, the Knights find themselves sitting with a 2-4 record with just three games remaining on the regular season schedule.

Niagara will look to bounce back today when they close out their weekend of road games against St. Clair (1-5) at 3:00 pm.
