RECAP: Knights eclipse century mark in victory over Golden Shield

The Niagara Knights women's basketball program (2-2, 5th OCAA West) scored 100 points in a regular season game for the first time in program history. The Knights defeated the Cambrian Golden Shield (0-4, 8th OCAA West) 100-52 on Saturday night in Welland.

Niagara broke the previous program record of 97 points in a game, which was set last season against Cambrian. Niagara had four players reach double digits, and three players record double-doubles. Courtney McPherson (Welland) led the way with 25 points and 12 rebounds.

Brooke-Lyn Murdoch (Welland) and Emily Naccarato (St. Catharines) were the other two players to record double-doubles. Murdoch had 20 points and 10 rebounds, along with seven assists. Naccarato had 10 points and 12 rebounds. Xuan Nguyen-Marshall (Scarborough) was the other player to reach double digits with 19 points.

In the game within the game sisters Rebecca Short (Grimsby) of Niagara and Alyssa Short of Cambrian faced off on the hardwood. Both sisters recorded four points, with the edge going to Alyssa with seven rebounds to Rebecca's four.

The Knights and Cambrian will get right back at it on Sunday afternoon, when they complete the second half of the doubleheader. Tipoff is set for 12pm. Tickets for all home games can be purchased at the door for $5.00 while students and those under the age of 17 are admitted free.
