Women's Soccer Fall to Fanshawe

Women's Soccer Fall to Fanshawe

On a windy day in Welland, the Niagara College women's soccer program fell to the Fanshawe Falcons (3-1-1, 3rd West) by a score of 2-1.

With the wind at their back, Niagara (0-5, 9th West) started the scoring on a goal by Kelsey Snyder (Niagara Falls) in the 19th minute.  Several other scoring chances developed for the Knights but the half ended with the score at 1-0.

The second half saw the Falcons attack more, resulting in a 48th minute goal when a miscue between Knights defenders led to a loose ball in the Knights' penalty area.  A well-executed corner kick less than ten minutes later allowed the Falcons to take a lead that they would not surrender.

After the game, 5th year head coach Frank DeChellis said, "My heart aches for the girls.  Even with two players missing and two injured during the match, we still played well enough and put up numbers strong enough to win that game.  I can't believe what could easily be a 3-2 record is sitting at 0-5."

Up next for the Niagara College women's soccer program is a September 27th road match versus the St. Clair Saints (2-0-2, 4th West). Kick-off is set for 2:00pm.
