Women's Soccer Headed Out on Two Game Road Trip

Women's Soccer Headed Out on Two Game Road Trip

Close games and tough losses has been the theme for the 2014 Niagara College women's soccer program so far.  With four losses by two goals or less, the Knights have played well but have suffered a large dose of bad luck.

Adding to an already difficult schedule, the Knights are heading on the road this weekend to play games on back to back days.  First on tap for the Knights, will be the St. Clair Saints (2-0-2, 4th West) this Saturday September 27th, at St. Clair Campus Field.  Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.

Last year these two teams played to a 1-1 draw but St. Clair is not the 1-6-1 team they were a year ago.  The Saints are coming off a 5-0 victory over the Lambton Lions and remain undefeated so far in 2014.  First year goalkeeper Brittany Haanappel (Niagara Falls) has been good between the pipes this season. She will be counted on again this weekend to make some big saves and keep her team within striking distance.

On Sunday, the Knights will travel to Sarnia to face the Lambton Lions (0-4, 8th West) who are currently tied with the Knights in the OCAA standings.  Lambton handed Niagara a 2-1 loss to end the 2013 season, so the Knights will be looking for retribution.

"All week we have been training hard, working on fundamentals and our offensive attack", stated fifth year head coach Frank DeChellis.  "I like the way practice has gone this week and I am hoping that it can translate onto the field this weekend."

Kick-off for Sunday's game is scheduled for 2:00pm at Main Campus.
