Preview: 2022 OCAA Player of the Year Desjardins Returning to the Lineup in Knights Home Opener Friday

Story by Niagara College Sports Communications Assistant, Joseph Sangers

The Niagara College Knights Women's Volleyball Program is hosting the Fanshawe Falcons to kick off their home opener Friday, November 4th at the Welland Campus Center at 6:00 PM.

Last season's Ontario Collegiate Athletics Association (OCAA) Women's Volleyball Player of the Year and rightside hitter, Natasha Desjardins, will be joining the lineup for the first time this season. The fifth-year, Autism Awareness major was unable to join the team in the previous two games due to her commitment to the Niagara College Women's Soccer program that brought home an OCAA bronze medal last week. The Welland native is truly an admirable athlete and head coach Tommy Sloan is ecstatic to have her back in the lineup Friday night. Her return will be a huge jolt to the Knights, who have dropped their first two matches this season to Humber and Conestoga.

Despite the losses, the Knights saw a strong performance from third-year, St. Catharines native, Montana Taylor. The five-foot-nine setter registered seven digs, five kills, and four assists. Niagara will lean on Taylor to continue her leadership and hard work going into their game against Fanshawe Friday night.

Fanshawe will be looking for their first win of the season as well, having dropped their first three games to Redeemer, Humber, and St. Clair.

All signs lead to an exciting matchup between two programs eager to get into the win column for the first time this season.

The Livestream starts at 6:00PM on OCAA Live, which can be found HERE. For more information regarding the Niagara College Knights, please visit goknights.ca .
