Lorelle Weavers and Carlos Williams Named Athletes of the Week

Female Athlete of the Week – Lorelle Weavers, Golf

For the second consecutive week Lorelle Weavers of the Niagara College golf team has been selected as the SAC female athlete of the week. Weavers shot a 76 at the Knights home course of Hunters Pointe to capture the individual tournament win at the annual Knights Fall Classic on September 22nd.

The Burlington, Ontario native has enjoyed tremendous success in her first year of OCAA competition, earning tournament wins in all three events she has entered thus far in 2014. Weavers is a graduate of Lester B. Pearson High School and is studying professional golf management at Niagara College. She spent the previous two years competing in the NCAA with Chicago State University.

At the Knights Fall Classic, Weavers shot a four over 76, three strokes better than her closest competitor, to capture the victory.

Up next for Weavers is the 2014 OCAA Golf Championships being hosted by Fleming College at Wildfire Golf Club in Peterborough from September 29th to October 1st.

New for 2014, all Niagara College athletes of the week will receive a free lunch special courtesy of the Niagara College Student Administrative Council.

Male Athlete of the Week – Carlos Williams, Men’s Soccer

Second year striker Carlos Williams of the men’s soccer program has been selected as this week’s SAC male athlete of the week.

Williams (St. Catharines) scored the Knights’ game winning goal during the team’s 2-1 road victory over the Lambton Lions on September 28th. The victory moves the Knights to 4-3 ion the season and into fourth place in the OCAA West Division.

Williams, who is currently enrolled in the Niagara College protection, security, and investigations program, is tied for the Knights team lead in goals with three.

Niagara College men’s soccer head coach Frank DeChellis Commented “The coaches and players can't say enough good things about Carlos. He is ready and willing to support the team on and off the field. He came to camp this year stronger and more focused and it shows. His work ethic at training and personality has affected both the men’s and women’s programs.”

The Knights will wrap up the 2014 OCAA regular season on Thursday, October 2nd when the team hosts the Mohawk Mountaineers at 6pm at Youngs Sportsplex.
