Knights golf team opens the season at Black Bear Ridge Golf & Resort

September 12th, 2024

Belleville, ON: Your Niagara Knights men's golf team travelled to Belleville, ON to compete in the St. Lawrence/Loyalist golf invitational, hosted at the pristine Black Bear Ridge Golf & Resort on Wednesday, September 11th, 2024.

Your Knights competed in their first invitational tournament of the golf season and came out swinging, finishing 5th overall as a team with a score of 319. The Knights had strong performances all around with their lowest score coming from Ethan Siebert shooting an impressive 77, good enough for a top 10 finish.  Avery Cheeseman and Aidan McVey each signed for a solid 80 while the rest of the team followed in just a few strokes behind.  For full results from this event and others, visit the OCAA website: https://ocaa.com/sports/golf/2024-25/schedule.

Black Bear Ridge Golf & Resort made for a tough, but exciting round of golf. Ranking as eastern Canada's top public golf course and Canadas 19th ranked public course. Its impressive water features and tight treelines make for some tricky holes to keep players challenged and on their toes throughout the entire round.

The Knights are searching for success on the course this season and hoping to improve upon last year's results.  The 2023-2024 season was a tough one; they fought hard but ultimately fell short at the OCAA championships, placing 8th as a team. The Knights have added some new faces to the squad this year with three, first year players. Avery Cheeseman, Robbie Stewart and David Barber, all of whom are hungry to compete and make their mark on the course.

The Knights are back on the road again this weekend as they travel to Windsor to compete in the two-day St. Clair invitational. On Saturday, September 14th they will be competing at Ambassador Golf Club followed by Sunday's round, being played at Roseland Golf & Curling Club.  The team is looking forward to a busy few weeks leading up to the OCAA provincial championships being hosted by Georgian College at the prestigious Barrie Country Club from October 1st through 3rd.
