Knights Women Heading to OCAA Final Four Championship

March 14, 2022 - The Niagara Knights women's basketball program punched their ticket to the OCAA Final Four tournament after a lopsided 75-45 win over St. Lawrence College on Saturday in their quarterfinal game.

Niagara will head to St. Clair College Wednesday morning for the two day playoff format that will feature the host Saints(8-0) and top OCAA West Division team , the Humber Hawks (8-0) who were first in the East, and Algonquin Wolves who finished second in the East (7-1).

Saturday's quarterfinal match up saw the SLC Surge roll into town after coming off 66-56 win over the 3rd place Centennial Colts. The Surge finished 3-5 and were the underdog in their playoff qualifying match with the Colts.

The first quarter of action set the tone for the game with the Knights taking a commanding 24-12 lead to end the first quarter. 

The Knights would continue to pile it on through the second where the Surge sat with just one point through the first nine minutes before finishing the quarter being outscored 23-6. The half ended with the Knights leading 47-19.

Despite the score, the Surge continued to put the work in and play out the final 20 minutes. 

The Knights were led by Lexxus Bell and Taryn Mitchell, who each had 12 points in the contest, while Terin Hultink brought down 21 rebounds. Molly Taylor also finished strong for the Knights with 11 points.

Niagara will now prep for their OCAA semi-final matchup against the Humber Hawks Wednesday night at 8:00pm. The winner of Wednesday's tilt will face the winner of St. Clair and Algonquin and play for gold Thursday evening at 7:30pm. The bronze game is set for 5:30pm.

Niagara will be returning to the OCAA final four after missing the post-season in 2019-2020. The Knights brought home bronze in 2018-2019 which was the first medal since the 2002-2003 season where they earned a silver medal finish.
